Note: This page will be coming down eventually. In it's place will be the Aeraean history and lore (if I ever have time to write it again. Bloody server wipes...grrr)
Tips
All young Rangers should get the flight paths to Ratchet and Southshore. We do a number of instances in both places, and having these ahead of time will drastically reduce the time needed to gather for a run. There are plenty of maps to help you find your way at WorldofWar.net
I recommend that all Alliance Rangers with the exception of Druids set their hearthstones to Auburdine. The flight to Darnassus is free, and you can run straight down the pier to cross the ocean if you need. For Druids, I suggest Booty Bay. Being able to teleport to the Moonglade at will negates the need for a hearth in Northern Kalimdor.
For those Rangers 58+ who can go to Outland, I suggest setting your hearth to Shattrath. There are portals there to every major cty for both factions.
For 62+ Elf Rangers, I strongly suggest that upon first arriving at Shattrath city, you choose the Scryers faction. Even without the consideration that this faction is Elves, with all of us using the same inn and bank it will give us more cohesion overall. For our Exodar ambassadors, it is expected of course that you will shelter with your own people.
Addons
WARNING: With continuing patches, ALL addons are having to be completely rewritten all the time. Check to be sure that the addon you are downloading has been updated to work with the current patch! The only addon I can garuntee functionality for is CTmod.
Addons - General
There are several recommended addons for Rangers, and many more are available at Curse Gaming.
To use your addons:
Download the addon to your desktop. Most addons are zipped. If your computer does not have a program to unzip files, you can download WinZip 10. Right-click on the program and select 'extract' or 'unzip'. You will then be prompted for a target folder. The default location for your addons folder is: C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns.
You should be ready to go! If your specified addon has not been updated to the current patch, you will not load it automatically. On your character selection screen there will be a small red 'AddOns' button in the lower left corner. You will have to open that, and enable out-of-date addons.
Note: Your security program may try to block any of these downloads. You may have to modify or disable the program to do so. Both sites thouroughly screen their content, and are very unlikely to contain any downloads that could harm your computer.
Note: Many addons will work incorrectly or not at all unless they are current.
Recommended AddOns
CTmod - This is an excellent custom interface will full support, and which is kept current to the patches. You can usually download the new version of CTmod as soon as the patch happens. I usually download only the core to keep things more streamlined, but there are tons of other great features that you can use with this interface as well. For Rangers and allies who are going to be raiding with us, I suggest you download CT Raid Assist from this site as well.
Omen - Probably the best threat meter now available. Unlike KTM, Omen tracks threat on multiple targets at once so there is no more guesswork when fighting larger groups. This addon is a must for all levels.
Titan Bar -This is another great one, and fully supported. It gives you a small bar at the top and/or bottom with lots of nice info and fun little gadgets.
Decursive -This is a wonderful tool for all classes with the ability to remove debuffs. Druids, priests, mages, etc. will find removal of curses, poisons, etc much easier.
Deadly Boss Mods - Essential for Karazhan and endgame raids, it also contains a complete set of timers and warnings for battleground.
TeamSpeak
Teamspeak is used to talk to each other over our TS server. This is good for fast coordination in battle and instances, and is nearly vital in endgame raid dungeons. It is also the only way Myst and Dawn Rangers are able to effectively communicate when questing together. Note that even if you do not have a microphone, you can use this to hear what those Rangers who do have one are saying.
You can download this from goteamspeak.com. You will want to download the TeamSpeak 2 Client (I use the BETA version)
